This is the best expedition wood cook stove, I have yet to use. Lightweight and compact. My family used it on a 9-day canoe expedition in Quebec. Easy to fold and unfold, holds fire really well, and vents on the bottom help to keep the fire at optimal aeration. Easy to set up on top of rocks of existing fireplaces. The firebox did not come with a grate and as a result it was difficult to balance a small tea pot, but no problem with larger cook pots.

The heat radiates out immediately and the smoke goes straight up. The ambiance of a real fire inside a real Tipi is nothing short of inspirational. My life will never be the same. Really!!! Wasn't even on my bucket list but I will add it to the list and check it off with five stars!!!

I live in a National Forest. The fire box is a very safe and convenient option for use during fire season.
I look forward to using it through winter.

Smokey campfire eyes take the fun out of camping. This firebox solved the problem. The price was steep, but when I received it the quality was excellent. The stainless steel is of good quality, and no heavy rust was observed after several rain storms. The firebox stores folded flat, then you expand out the sides, push out the bottom, then insert the two bottom rails to lock in the box shape. If you place the box directly on the ground and build a fire, you have not used it correctly. Place four rocks on the ground, then set the firebox on top. This will provide the fire with airflow from the bottom, which causes the wood to burn with less smoke and much higher efficiency. The best method is to use four metal tent stakes (the best are made by Snow Peak). Put 4 stakes in the ground in the same shape as your firebox rails. Leave the top of the tent stakes a few inches above the ground. Place the firebox on top of the stakes. You can then tap each stake down independently to self level your firebox. This method allows you to gain the correct height above the ground, without waisting time looking for the perfect rocks. Once you level the box, you can start your fire and enjoy the view. There were no wood pieces left unburnt and remaining material was fine ash which dropped through the bottom holes to the ground. You can easily place a large pan or coffee pot on top to cook without needing additional grates or hanging chains. You will need a small grate if you plan grill meat. I keep my 4 tent stakes, firebox, grill grate, and fire starter inside the bag it came with. I just grab the bag and I have everything to start a fire and cook. If you build a fire in your Tentipi, which is why we buy them in the first place, be sure to use this Hekla for the best experience. So worth it.

I've used this in my Zirkon 7, outside and in the back yard. Easy to set up and store. Very handy for cooking, roasting marshmellows and just keeping warm. Folds into a compact size for easy storage.

Very sturdy. A bit hard to open the first few times until it's "broken in." Definitely should wear gloves when opening. I wish it had a little bi-fold grate that fit over it.
